Charlie Puth has released 3 singles from his upcoming 12-track LP titled “Whatever’s Clever”, and one of them is a song that makes you float in the air, telling you that it's okay, and it's called Cry.

Charlie Puth "Cry" Album Art

One of the first things I noticed (and loved) about the song is how beautiful and smooth it sounds, throughout. The relatively short intro instantly reminds me of the golden decade of pop music. Charlie’s voice is soft and blends in beautifully with the song. The drums are groovy and the trashy gated snare somehow works perfectly for the song. The electric pianos transcend you into the clouds (quite like the album art!).

The record aside, the song itself is absolutely beautiful. The lyrics are a permission to cry your heart out, and a validation of your battle of life. The melody feels magical, as if an angel is singing Cry to console you.

Charlie Puth outdid himself as a singer with Cry. His singing keeps getting better and the performance of Cry is better than ever. Not to mention, Kenny G as the saxophonist and as a songwriter was impeccable.

I find Puth’s production also getting better by the release. Last I was impressed with his production was when I first listened to Elton John & Charlie Puth, “After All” (2021). I absolutely love After All, but with Cry, Charlie proves to me that he’s not reached his peak as a producer yet. Plus, as always, Manny Marroquin and Charlie Puth did a fantastic job with the mix. The record beautifully brings out the message of the song.

So far, all 3 singles that Puth released from his upcoming album, Whatever’s Clever, are amazing, and creatively and aesthetically a slight departure from the Charlie Puth catalogue that we have known of so far. It’s exciting and I can’t wait for the album to be released on March 27, 2026.
